The Skoch Awards celebrate human excellence and agents of change in Indian society. The Awards are based on the philosophy of spearheading positive socio-economic changes through recognising persons who have contributed immensely to salutary transformations in society and governance by displaying exemplary leadership abilities. They are the highest independently instituted civilian honours in India. ince 2003, when these were instituted, the Skoch Awards have become the only independent benchmark of best practices in India in the fields of governance, finance, banking, technology, corporate citizenship, economics and inclusive growth. These salute individuals, highlight projects and focus institutions that go the extra mile to make India a better nation. The Awards are conferred on the mighty and the ordinary alike.

We are trying to apply over a decade of learning from our field visits, conferences, workshops and books on inclusive growth through a national program called "Samavesh - Accelerating Inclusive Growth." Lack of financial and digital literacy is one of the key precipitating factors for inclusion and thus project Samavesh puts a high degree of emphasis on functional literacy. The key highlights are as follows:

  • To be implemented through community participation with focus on elected women Panchayati Raj members, ASHA workers and community-based organizations.
  • To create a resource base of one financially and digitally literate resource person per Gram Panchayat.
  • Try to reach direct financial services (without intermediaries) to the people who need them the most.
  • To promote both supply side and demand side measures to achieve the objectives of credit availability, livelihood promotion and poverty alleviation.

Skoch State Dialogues

We have created a unique platform called the Skoch State Dialogue, which gives an opportunity to discuss with industry and share the vision of the state at the senior-most levels. Before the industry is able to make any commitment to the change at the state level, it is important to understand what are the challenges the state is facing, which is the direction they are trying to go, what are the growth drivers the state is looking at? With every state investing billions in e-governance, there is a need to assess what technology they want to go for. With many states gearing up for industrial and railway corridors and smart cities, there is a clamour for infrastructure projects. Needless to say, all

of these will vastly vary from state to state—there is no one-size-fits-all. To cut the learning cycle short, we have made this platform called the Skoch State Dialogue where the entire state government functionaries can brainstorm with the industry for a day and understand each other’s aspirations and plans so that neither the state nor the industry is found groping in the dark after discussing their development and digital plans. This then becomes an invaluable platform for building relationships, partnerships and business based on deep understanding of the state subjects.
